You Can Help

Can you help us?

When we relaunched the Thanet Primary Schools' Cross Country series in March 2022, sport in the area - along with the rest of the country - was just starting to get back on its feet after the pandemic. What we didn't realise, of course, was that a fresh challenge was around the corner.

Insurance premiums, medals for the runners, parking services and portable toilet hire; the price of everything involved in running the event has risen steeply.

With energy prices soaring as winter approaches, many families are understandably cutting down on unnecessary expenditure. Raising our own entry fee, therefore, would hardly be an effective way to achieve our aim of encouraging as many children as possible to run!

As well as keeping race entry at £3.50 per child, we are offering free entry to anyone who would otherwise be unable to run due to the 'cost-of-living crisis'. We sincerely hope you can help us with this and our other plans.

Apart from the primary schools' races, we are also looking at doing something for children in Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9). They will have missed numerous opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic and are now at the age when so many youngsters simply turn their back on sport. It would be great to give them their own series of races and hopefully keep a few of them engaged in running as they get older.

We also have an annual commitment to cover Thanet District's affiliation fee to the Kent Schools' Athletic Association. This is currently £120 per year, and potentially set to rise for 2023. (Without KSAA affiliation, pupils from the district's secondary schools wouyld not be able to compete at the Kent Schools' Championship events.)

Any contribution you are able to offer will be invaluable in supporting young runners in the local area.

Many thanks for your help,
